Running for my life - not literally, well sort of...

The end of February was our 2nd year to do the 10K rodeo run in Houston.  Overall, we did better than we anticipated.  We should have done a few more training runs prior to the event, and I should have drank more water during week.  I made the mistake the morning of the run by drinking a bunch of H2O prior to the drive downtown.  Danielle kept telling me that I was drinking too much that morning, but of course I didn't listen.  So during our 5 block walk to the starting line, I felt "the p.p. dance" coming on.  Apparently 500+ people felt the same way when we got to the starting line, so I did my best to meditate, hoping it would go away - it didn't.

My goal for mile one was to run till I found a port-o-potty.  When I got to the mile one marker I remember clocking a decent mile and then I located a set of port-o-lets with like 20 plus people waiting. I told myself to keep going and that something better would show up - it didn't.  I must have clocked my best mile time getting to the mile two marker.  I felt kinda like you do when your car's gas tank hits "E" on the highway. Trying to stay calm, but doing 80 mph trying to see the gas station on the horizon.  Only difference is that I'm running on a FULL TANK!  So, mile 2 hits and I see two stalls calling my name - with no one around them?!  I walk up like I have VIP access only to see a line 7 peeps deep with some dude in front giving the hitchhiker thumb to the back of the line.  Damn... Fast Forward...  I fly out of the port-o-let like Superman determined to make up my powder room time.  Weaving around people probably added .25 mile to my run.  I found Danielle on the run and dropped the "hey beautiful, you run here often".  We ran together for a little while and I slowly picked up my pace.  Mile 4-5 was were my water consumption (or lack there of) gave me my last jab of the day - literally.  My side cramped up and I decided to run 2 minutes and walk one minute for part of that mile. By mile 5, I just told myself to run it out.

At the end of run, we both felt we did very well with the event.  Danielle was consistent and solid as always. We took it in that we are people that can do these types of events now.  We always feel so great after finishing these runs. We both agreed that if we weren't crossfitting that this would have been alot more difficult due to our small amount of running we did outside the gym prior to the event.  Thanks CFC!

So it was off to Mardi Gras in Galveston for the weekend! Good times with friends, festivities, and fishing! Cheers to an awesome weekend!
