Trying out our green thumb this year!

Gardening Organic 101

Our garden on 3.20.11

We finally started a vegetable garden! After talking to several of our friends that started their own raised bed gardens (thanks Beth and Sue Ann!), we finally worked up enough courage to start one of our very own.  We are only using organic products to help grow our veggies and protect them from bad bugs, bacteria, and fungus.  It is amazing what you can learn online about gardening and how many natural products are out there at your disposal.  Seaweed, fish oil, molasses, and compost tea are a few items that we're learning can prevent bad things from destroying your garden and also naturally fertilize your produce/soil.  I'm not gonna lie, I've become a closet garden nerd.  I'm watching videos on gardening on my lunch break and at night.  Now I'm blogging about gardening.  HELP!  Just kidding.....

We're looking to grow tomatoes, jalapenos, banana peppers, basil, cilantro, bell peppers, squash, onions, strawberries, watermelon, and cantaloupe.  We planted about 10 days ago and we can already see the growth in our garden.  We checked it today and our tomato trees have started to fruit!  More pics to come!

Wish us luck and any tips are appreciated.  :)

  1. Bobby,
UrbanHarvest.org is a great website for gardening in Houston. They list what variety of vegetables you should plant in the Houston area and when to plant them. I also have some other links if you are interested. Mary
