How rice saved me last weekend

Last Saturday was an experience to say the least.  The day started out with Danielle and myself driving around Houston to run some errands (new crossfit shoes for me and Danielle needed accessories for a diaper cake she was making).  So near the end of the day we end up at toys "r" us over by willowbrook mall.

The incident at the toy store
As Christmas presents this year, Danielle and I decided to buy ourselves new phones, so that we could join the 21st century in technology.  As with any new phone, there always is that adjustment period of just getting used to it (carrying it around, not dropping it, etc).  I ended up buying one of those carrying cases for my belt (I'm officially an adult now).  So, I go to use the little boys room at the store, and somehow my arm smacks the carrying case clipped to my belt.  All I see (pictured in slow motion) is my phone take a nose dive directly into one of the public toilets.  Without thinking, I speared my arm into the commode to pull my phone out, splashing water everywhere in the process.  Immediately, I go into open heart surgery on my phone trying to dry the guts as soon as freaking possible.  My only surgeon tool being the sheet-by-sheet 1 ply toilet paper squares and the hand blower by the sink.  As I'm trying to dry the phone, Danielle is texting where I'm at.  It still hasn't even settled in that I just stuck my hand in a public toilet.....nasty.

The aftermath
So after disinfecting myself, my phone, and my adult carrying case, everything seemed to be fine. Phone worked good up until about 10:00pm that night.  Then buttons slowly stopped functioning, and all I could think about was having to spend another day at our cell store haggling over phones.  Danielle had heard that if you get moisture in your phone that you should cover it in uncooked rice to dry it out.  Great idea, let me just go to the pantry and.....oh yeah, we don't carry that anymore in the Singer house.  Luckily, one of our decorative cannisters in the kitchen still had some rice that had been time capsuled for about over a year.  So I tucked my phone into a bed of rice, said a prayer, and hoped for the best.  The next morning, SUCCESS!! My phone was working!! To be safe, I put my phone back into the rice for the rest of the day.  I haven't had any problems since.

So, if you're having a bad day today, just remember that you didn't put your arm in a public toilet last Saturday!  Have a great weekend!
