Monday - Friday eating (Grade: B+)
During the week we've been pretty good, almost 100% on track. When we're in town and working things are very smooth with our eating. I was on the road this week for a few days for work and eating became a little challenging. Driving up to Dallas and back I picked up food in the car. I wasn't driving and was at the diposal of the driver. I know that in the future I need to plan better for this, so I can avoid eating fast food. Lunch and Dinner on the road was pretty easy for me to stay on track, did bbq one day for lunch and salad the other, dinner was chipotle in a bowl. :) Worked out at the hotel gym. Treadmill, pushups, medball situps (props to Hilton garden inn for having a decent setup).
Weekend eating (Grade: D-)
This is where we struggled pretty bad. The last two weeks especially I've seen us just fall off the wagon on the weekends. Saturday was our worst day this last weekend. We stay pretty social on the weekends and this has made it very difficult for us to stay on track. Last Sunday, I personally was extremely frustrated with eating in general. We went to lunch after church and I was just angry. I was overwhelming myself with thoughts...why am I doing this....I'm taking this too seriously....you can start tomorrow....all this crud just flowing through my head. I kept staring at the menu just irrated that I couldn't order what I wanted. Talking with Danielle was great, just helping me work through this was a good thing. We've been talking about making Saturday a cheat day for us, but we're not sure if we should. I've gone back and forth on this in my head. At this point, we need to do something different to make this work better.
Some perspective
So we finally cleaned out our closet and got rid of all of our clothes that are too big for us. We had about 8 contractor bags worth of clothes that we ended up donating. Going through the garage, Danielle found a picture back when we were dating back in 2005. Really made me see the progress we've made over the last year and half. We were pretty out of control with our eating back then. I remember getting on the scale in 2005 and seeing 278 lbs. Did I do anything about it....nope. Continued to eat and was a smoker to boot. I know that Danielle has been better about food than I have over the years. Most of my life I have never thought about nutrition. I remember growing up that almost every friday night we would drive to get videos and pizza for dinner. We ate out a majority of the time growing up. I rarely drank water, just regular soda.
This last year is truly the only time in my life that I have really made the effort to learn about being healthy overall with my wife. I know that our eating is not perfect, but it is a tremendous improvement on how we spent a majority of our life consuming "food". I have to remember this, and that this process of change doesn't happen overnight. If that was the case, then everyone would eat healthy starting tomorrow. I talked with alot of people this week about their nutrition. Hearing that people struggle like we do made me know that we're not alone.
Moving into February
Our goal for February is to work at the weekend eating. We also have the rodeo run at the end of the month, and we want to be ready to run this event for the 2nd year in a row! As always, crossfit will be our primary workout followed up with some running outside the gym.
Talk to you soon.
Bobby and Danielle

Damn! Never knew about this blog. MEGA!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I can be a bad influence on your eating but keep up the good work bro.
Thanks Matt. No worries, it is up to me to be accountable for what I do. You know I'm always down for a MEGA TIME!
